On February 15, 2013, Nature’s Variety announced what they called a “quality announcement” that turns out to be a recall.
One batch of their Instinct Raw Organic Chicken Formula has been found to have clear plastic pieces in it. These pieces pose a choking risk to dogs. Nature’s Variety says they have identified the source of these plastic pieces and that they have taken care of the problem.
Affected bags have a best-by date listed as 10/04/13. To find the best-by date, look on the back of the food bag below the “Contact Us” section.

Nature’s Variety first learned of the problem from an observant customer. Luckily, no harm to pets has been reported in connection with this recall.
If your dog’s food is part of this recall, follow these steps:
• Discontinue feeding this batch immediately.
• Keep a close eye on your dog to make sure he is safe. If you suspect anything is off, call your veterinarian immediately and let them know about your dog’s symptoms and the recall on your dog’s food.
• Get a refund or exchange. Bring either the remainder of the food or proof of purchase to the retailer where the recalled food was purchased.
