Dog rescue stories are competing to raise support for rescue organizations from across the country, and your votes determine the winner.
Purina is sponsoring the Rally to Rescue Stories Contest to recognize all the love and work that goes into helping animals’ survival stories have a happy ending. Of 63 stories submitted, judges narrowed it down to 10 finalists. Now through October 3, 2011, animal lovers can vote for their favorite rescue story.
The winner will be honored at the National Dog Show in the main ring. The show airs on NBC on Thanksgiving Day, so it has huge viewership. This is a huge opportunity to call national attention to rescue! The winning pet, owner, and rescue organization will be featured at the live event, where they will get a backstage tour, tickets to the show, and a meet-and-greet with David Frei, an analyst for the dog show and well-known dog expert. The winning organization will also get $5,000 in Purina coupons to help cover the costs of feeding the animals they help.
Some of the finalists include:
• Rudy, a Shepherd mix who was saved from a hoarder and is now a therapy dog,
• Milly the Weimaraner, found with both eyes swollen shut on a cold night in Michigan,
• Tucker, a Labrador Retriever who was adopted after being hit by a truck.
The people and organizations who have helped these animals recover and find loving forever homes deserve respect and support for all they do. According to Robert Tochterman from Purina, “These extraordinary dogs and cats serve as inspiration to all of us about the sheer power and determination for survival among rescue pets.” Anyone with a rescued pet knows just how true that statement is.
To see all the stories and vote for your favorites, go to the Rally to Rescue Facebook page between now and October 3rd. The winner will be determined based on votes and judge’s scores.
